- UPDATES TO INTERNET EXPLORER
- ============================
-
- SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS
- ---------------------
- The Authenticode(TM) Security Technology dialog box now further differentiates
- between individual and commercial software publishers. In addition, based on user
- feedback, we have removed the option to "trust all individual software publishers
- who have had their certificates issued by a specific certificate authority."
- Users continue to have the option to trust specific individual or commercial
- software publishers. In addition, Internet Explorer 3.01 includes all fixes
- previously available in the security patch for Internet Explorer 3.0.
-
- Compatibility with PowWow
- -------------------------
- This release is compatible with the PowWow program from Tribal Voice, Inc.
-
- Java
- ----
- The Java(TM) Virtual Machine included in Internet Explorer 3.01 provides
- enhanced Java/COM integration and minor bug fixes such as the JIT tail
- recursion issue.
-
- Office 97 Web/Internet Integration
- ----------------------------------
- Enhancements have been made for improved integration with Web features
- in the upcoming Microsoft Office 97.
-
- AOL/CompuServe Changes
- ----------------------
- Fixes have been made specific to the AOL and CompuServe clients (in particular,
- window.open and flicker issues) which incorporate Internet Explorer.
-
- Installatio Location
- --------------------
- All versions of Internet Explorer now prompt users for installation location
- if Internet Explorer has not been previously installed.
-
- Style Sheet Margin Syntax
- -------------------------
- Changes have been made to the interpretation of margin settings for CSS
- stylesheets, based on feedback from the W3C.
-
- For details on Internet Explorer support of CSS Stylesheets, see
- http://www.microsoft.com/workshop/author/other/margins-f.htm.
-
- Various International Fixes
- ---------------------------
- Improved international character-set support and added international
- support for Autosearch are included.
-
-
- ANIMATED LOGO SUPPORT IN THE IEAK WIZARD
- ========================================
-
- The IEAK kit wizard now enables you to customize the animated logo that is
- displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the toolbar when the browser
- is actively loading content from the Web. Previously only the static logo
- was available for customization. If you choose to replace the logo, you
- need to supply large and small versions of your customized animation in
- bitmap form. The bitmap must contain a vertical stack of animation cell
- images that follow these Internet Explorer animation rules:
-
- * Your animation palette can contain only 256 colors.
- * Each animation cell must be 38 by 38 pixels, or 26 by 26 pixels, for large
- and small animation images respectively.
- * Cells 1 through 4 are lead-in cells that are played when Internet Explorer
- begins to browse.
- * Cells 5 through X, where X is the total number of cells, loop until the
- browse operation is complete.
-
- You can find examples of these animations by looking at \docs\bitmaps\win95\26x26A.bmp
- and 38x38A.bmp in the updated IEAK directory.
-
-
- UPDATE TO INTERNET EXPLORER 2.1 INTRANET BROWSER FOR WINDOWS 3.1
- ================================================================
-
- The Windows 3.1 Internet Explorer browser has been updated to address
- memory-resource usage problems. This update does not affect the ISP or ICP
- versions of the browser.
-
-
- INITIAL INTERNET EXPLORER 3.01 START PAGE REMOVAL
- =================================================
-
- Internet Explorer will load a special Microsoft start page the first
- time it is started on the end user's computer. The IEAK wizard has an
- option to remove this page. This option, however, was sometimes being
- ignored and the page was displayed regardless of what was selected in the
- wizard. The IEAK 3.01 update has addressed this problem and the start page
- will no longer appear if specified not to in the Wizard.
